Description

A comic from my journal comic series "The Secret Life of a Journal Comic". You can read more at my main site at www.journalcomic.com

And now for it's original notes...

On one side the My Little Pony or "Brony" phenomenon is a fascinating one, and on the other side, there isn't really anything interesting or new about it, and ultimately nothing new to be gleaned from within or without the community.

I don't mean the show isn't interesting, I actually like the show, but I like a lot of cartoons, so this isn't a redefining moment of my life. It was weird hearing someone say that "My Little Pony has made liking cartoons cool". Really? Because I've always liked cartoons because... I happen to enjoy them, and I've never felt I should be ashamed of that fact. If anything, it should've been hip for adults to watch cartoons all along, by virtue of the fact that it's an uncommon interest; thus cool.

But ironically, although everyone seems to want an uncommon interest of their own, most people don't seem to know how to find one by themselves. So most people just attach themselves to a popular interest which they find tolerable and has been labeled as "uncommon" by the masses. It happened with anime, weed, punks, math, PBR and now My Little Pony. All that changes is the subject that we as a society decide we shouldn't like, but will anyway!

Now if only Bing could figure out how to tap into that vein, but I suppose for it to work, their product would have to be at least tolerable.

To me My little pony was just a toy franchise back in the day and That's all it means to me. I still remember the commercials for those toys in the 90s too. I'm nearly a few years older than you so you may remember this. So this brony stuff...whatever.

Of course it should be hip for adults to like cartoons. At least they have something in common with their kids if they have any. Plus cartoons is not just for kids, never really has been. For example, I do dabble in something that's truly a uncommon/taboo interest at least in the states, non-anime porn cartooning(like Rule 34). That's all I'm going to say about that here. But to settle one stupid stereotype, I hate kids.

The pony people are wannabes compared to the porn cartoon enthusiast. Like Akon's gangsta song. Even the pony fetish people are trying way too hard to be out there. LOL
