That whole “everyone is sort of right” resolution to an argument or controversial issue has always been kind of a sticking point for me. So often it’s presented as though it’s “taking the high road” when in reality it’s “taking no road at all”. I’d never want to discourage people from internalizing different viewpoints and appreciating where they’re coming from, but that’s only half of critical thinking! Don’t present that as your final product. That’s like gathering all the ingredients to make a cake and calling yourself the perfect baker!
Though I can understand that tactic’s appeal. Not only do you get the credit but who can criticize a confection you can’t even taste? Talk about having your cake without having it too.
